As standard posts are supplied in a natural rough sawn state (as shown in picture), optional finishes comprise:-
- Rough sawn (as supplied from saw mill), will show saw marks and may deviate along length.
- Planed, all 4 sides planed true, edges then routered to remove sharp edge (note section size will reduce by around 5mm).
- Planed + Pointed Top, as above but with one end (top) finished to a 4-sided shallow point (30 degrees to aid water run-off).
- Planed + Pointed Top + Danish Oil, as above with the addition of 3 coats of Danish oil.
Naturally the oak does not need a finish and will actually harden with age (exposed to the weather the colour will turn to a greyish shade). Inherent with oak posts splits are likely to be present on received post as well as appearing overtime, this will not however reduce the strength of the post (feature often deemed desirable and rustic).
